THAILAND WEATHER AND WHEN TO GO

NORTHEASTERN (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai)

 
  • Hot season (Mar – Jun): The temperature climaxes at 35°C, followed by extreme heat and occasional thunderstorms amongst the mountainous areas.
  • Rain season (Jul – Oct): The downpours happen irregularly with heaviest rainfall on July and August. The temperature ranges from 23 – 30°C within a day.
  • Cool season (Nov – Feb): In December and February, the weather is extremely dry, cold with strong wind and low temperature (~15°C).

 

CENTRAL (Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Samui)

 
  • Hot season (Mar – Jun): The temperature remains at 30°C and peaks around 40°C in the last two months. Occasional rain and high humidity are normal, especially in Bangkok and Pattaya.
  • Rain season (Jul – Oct): The rainfalls are usually flash-flood downpours and the temperature fluctuates around 25 – 30°C between days. In this season, high humidity is a real concern.
  • Cool season (Jan – Feb): The cool season lasts for only few weeks in central cities. During this short period, pleasant sunlight, refreshing wind and cool temperature (~25°C) are best to enjoy.

 

SOUTHERN (Phuket, Krabi)

 
  • Hot season (Dec – Apr): During daytime, the temperature might peak at 40°C, followed by extreme heat and drizzling rain in the afternoon.
  • Rain season (May – Nov): The rainfalls are rough in May, September and October with occasional typhoons and high humidity. The temperature constantly drops to 25°C and even lower.

THAILAND TOP DESTINATIONS

Bangkok
Bangkok is one of Asia’s great cities. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the Thai capital is a city a that almost every visitor to Thailand will find themselves in at some stage. It is a sprawling metropolis known for its ornate shrines and home to the opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Emerald Buddha temple. Nearby is Wat Pho with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun with its steep steps and Khmer style spire.
Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai, in the north of Thailand, is the nation’s second most visited city, although much smaller than Bangkok. Surrounded on all 4 sides by an ancient defensive wall and moats, the centre of town is packed with wats, excellent restaurants and shopping markets all of which are easily accessed on foot. It is also a good base for those wishing to explore northern Thailand.
Ayutthaya
Founded in 1350, Kingdom of Siam’s former capital and destroyed by the Burmese invasion in 1767, the ancient city of Ayutthaya lies now on its impressive ruins, which make it one of Thailand’s top-ranking heritage destinations. Ayutthaya archaeological site, with what remain of the once glorious temples, palaces and statues, is a must-see visit for history lovers.
